My last column explored how the Christopher and Towson families celebrated their respective weddings amid close friends and relatives at the bride's home. Most weddings of that day were conducted in this quiet fashion. The wedding of Frank H. Buck and Annie Elizabeth Stevenson on April 29, 1886, on the other hand, was a large, elaborate affair.

[WAYITWAS-2001-64]
Spring has finally arrived. Seeing all the fruit trees in bloom once again is truly one of the wonderful advantages of living in Solano County. My personal favorites are the peach and nectarine trees with their pink blossoms. Together with the yellow mustard growing underneath and a deep blue sky above, I always think of an impressionist painting.

Orchards have been a part of Solano County's landscape for more than 150 years. [ECHOS-1996-307]
In the spring of 1858, a new stage line was being established to run between Marysville and Vallejo or Benicia by way of Smith's Ferry, Cacheville, McMahon Ranch and Vacaville. This route was nearly identical to that of the proposed railroad. That it was to operate within nine miles of Napa City meant it would be not only accommodate passengers to and from upper Solano County, but also Napa Springs.
